SINGAPORE ELEPHANT AUCTION
THE ELEPHANT SAFARI PARK & LODGE PUTS ITS’ MONEY WHERE IT’S HEART IS BY SUPPORTING ‘THE ELEPHANT PARADE AUCTION’ TO HELP SAVE ASIAS ENDANGERED ELEPHANTS.

On Saturday the 27th of January 2012 the ABN AMRO Elephant Parade Grand Auction was finalized in Singapore raising a total of $ 1,781,000 from the sale of it’s herd of Fiberglass Elephants that were painted and decorated by famous artists from all over the world. The Asian Elephant Foundation Conservation Fund receiving $445.000 of this to help all Asian Elephants in the wild.

Leading auction house Sothebys, opened the auction on the 12th of January at the St Regis Hotel with the sale of 38 decorated elephants, followed by a second auction that also went online at the Fullerton Hotel at a Champagne Brunch. The top price was bid for an elephant painted by the Filipino Artist, Ronald Venture, going for the amazing price of $62,000.

 

ELEPHANT SAFARI PARK PURCHASES

Nigel and Yanie Mason owners of the World Famous Elephant Safari Park and Lodge in Ubud, Bali participated in the ‘online’ purchase of two of these wonderful painted fiberglass elephants. “Damaged Dumbo” by well known Filipino artist Renato L Barja and ‘Shivakari’ by Australian artist Katrina Read were both purchased by the Masons to be put on permanent display at the Elephant Safari Park & Lodge at Taro, Ubud, Bali. They will be situated at the entrance to the park adjacent to the ‘Elephant Museum’.

The co-founder of the Elephant Parade, Mike Spits was reported as saying quote, “I am very pleased that these exceptional and loveable works of art have found new homes, at the same time we have managed to raise funds for the Asian Elephant Foundation and Wildlife Singapore Conservation Fund, which will be channeled to ensure a sustainable future for our ecosystem and it’s inhabitants. Through this exhibition in Singapore, I am very happy to see that our ‘Elephant Parade’ family has grown bigger, which means more people are now aware of the plight of the Asian Elephant”.

Nigel and Yanie Mason have been instrumental in their support of the ‘Sumatran Elephant Foundation’ since the opening of the Elephant Safari Park in 1997.
