The owners of Bali Adventure Tours and the Elephant Safari Park and Lodge recently participated in the Singapore based ‘Elephant Parade’ auction held by the world renowned ‘Southerbys’ auction house.
The ‘Elephant Parade’ was the world’s largest open air art exhibition of decorated elephant statues, designed to bring public awareness and support for the endangered Asian Elephant and for its conservation. Proceeds from the Elephant Parade auction go towards the ‘Asian Elephant Foundation’.
The ‘Elephant Parade’ proved hugely successful and the money raised will go into supporting projects that include ‘elephant hospitals’, ‘restoration of vital land corridors’ and for ‘lobbying governments’ and for ‘research’.
Nigel & Yanie Mason, owners Bali’s largest adventure company and the renowned Elephant Safari Park and Lodge at Taro, Ubud, says that they were happy to donate money from their companies ‘Sumatran Elephant Foundation’ towards the purchase of two of these unique pieces of elephant art, to have on permanent display at the parks museum area, to highlight the companies commitment towards conservation for all Asian Elephants not just Sumatran elephants.
This was a very worthwhile cause, Nigel says and needed to be supported by our company to show that we are prepared to not just give ‘lip service’ to Asian Elephant Conservation. Bali Adventure Tours donated US$ 30,000 for the purchase of these two elephant statues at the Southerbys ‘online’ auction. They will be on show at the Elephant Safari Park at Taro in late February, when they arrive from Singapore. Each elephant is about 1.5 metres high.
